Have a rally car for your troubles! So I have a phone upgrade now, but I'm not sure if I should use it or save it. I used to be super into mobile devices, and I would count the days, nay, minutes until I got an upgrade. Fast forward to now, and I don't really care about phones as much anymore. I like iPhones better than android phones, and I don't want this to turn into a debate on what is better.
So, I currently have an iPhone 4s, and it is starting to show its age. It is a little laggy at times, but it isn't really annoying yet. Verizon surprisingly will give me enough for my 4s to buy a 5s (on contract). The problem is it will cost me over $100 to get a new Lifeproof case and a couple extra cables. That will take away from my car mod budget though. If I don't upgrade now, I will wait for the new iPhone to come out, and upgrade then. So Oppo, upgrade or no upgrade?

dont

It's probably better to wait for the 6, or even the 6s.

Don't wait. These will come into fashion.

Wait, everyone knows the new iPhone will be out in September... Your 4S should stay usable till then and you'll get the new form factor. It's only 5 months...

Upgrade now, but instead of activating the new phone sell it. $200 profit for car money

That is what I was thinking, but I saw a rumor that the screen size will be upped to 4.7 and 5.5 inches. If that was to happen, I would just buy a 5s. I hate phones with massive screens.
![]() 04/15/2014 at 18:53 |

That is exactly what I am worried about.

Wasn't it closer to the end of october for the 5s?
![]() 04/15/2014 at 18:55 |

Unfortunately, I still need to have a phone.

If you're sticking with iPhones then I'd say wait since they're at a major upgrade point. If they were just going to do an "S" this time I'd say do it now.

If you're staying IOS, just wait for the 6. If the 6 isn't worth the upgrade over the 5S, those will be much cheaper, and the 6c will be out. Plenty of options. Then sell your 4S on eBay, don't let Verizon get their greedy hands on it.
If you're considering jumping ship, the HTC One M8 is excellent. If you haven't tried Android for a while, I really suggest checking one out in the store.
![]() 04/15/2014 at 18:56 |

That actually worries me, I am afraid that the screen size will get too big.
![]() 04/15/2014 at 18:58 |

Trust me, you will appreciate a larger screen after you get used to it and it's not like they are going to be putting out an iPhone version of the Galaxy Note.

I know that it is solid, but I am spoiled by the apple connectivity. Verizon actually will give me a fair price for it surprisingly.
![]() 04/15/2014 at 19:02 |

I came from a larger screen, and the current 5s screen is as large as I want to go.
![]() 04/15/2014 at 19:03 |

Then you've answered your own question. Buy! Buy! Buy!
![]() 04/15/2014 at 19:05 |

....Well I guess I have....
![]() 04/15/2014 at 19:08 |

Oh whoops, I read that as Verizon won't give you enough for it. I guess I just assumed...
If you're already entrenched in the Apple ecosystem and you're not tired of IOS, there's no reason to switch.
![]() 04/15/2014 at 19:12 |

Perfectly reasonable assumption, haha. I think I triple checked the value.

As a former 4S owner who (unwillingly) upgraded 2 months ago, I say go for the 5S. Unless you can REALLY wait until september.
I was robbed in december and my insurance company gave me a 5C on the 4S's place. So, theoretically I made a 1-gen bump instead of two.
But the performance is so much higher than the 4S that I cannot argue it'd need any more. At least for now. Faster than the 4S when the 5 came out, to be honest. The only thing I'm missing is that the 5S has that awesome slo-mo camera.
So, if you get the 5S, unless the 6 has an acceptable screen size (which apparently it doesn't) and has a killer new feature. I'd say there aren't many reasons to wait for it. If you can, great. You may get a killer iPhone 6, or have the 5S with a nicer price.
Thanks for the Mazda.

I completely forgot about the slow-mo camera! That might be a tipping point for me. Its is good to hear that the performance is that much better.
And you're welcome for the Mazda!

I'd say upgrade to Windows phone... but then anything is an upgrade from an iPhone...
Seriously though, upgrade and keep the iPhone as a backup. If you get to a point you don't want the backup sell the iPhone. Or make a bad decision and sell the Windows phone.

I said upgrade, not downgrade... BA-DUM-TSSH
![]() 04/15/2014 at 20:40 |

Yes, exactly ;)
Of course coming from iPhone, this would be an upgrade:

+1 For understanding humor, haha.

Hehe, I may hate Apple... But I love giving people crap more than I care about their choices.
Apple doesn't work for me (in IT had to work with those bastards before and their inferior products).
Every one doesn't share my experience or opinion though, otherwise Apple, VW, and Audi would be distant memories, Oklahoma would be a crater, and Vodka Tonic w/ lime would be the national drink. :D
![]() 04/15/2014 at 21:05 |

If it were up to me luxobarges would no longer exist (pretty much anything new haha), and simplify then add lightness would be the national motto.
![]() 04/15/2014 at 21:08 |

I could get behind that! Everything has just become way too big. My current Civic Si is bigger than my first Accord (07 and 89 LXi), and even the accord is about as big as my first car, 79 Ford Granada. That was a BOAT when I drove it. Now its way smaller than a Taurus.

I just bought a '14 Mazda 2, one the simplest and lightest cars on sale, haha. It is a "subcompact" which is incredibly deceiving, because it is not really that small. It can seat 5(!!) people almost comfortably, with a few bags in the back. It is only marginally shorter than the speed protege that I traded in to get it. The way things are going, there will be "ultracompacts" soon that will be even bigger than the subcompacts today!
![]() 04/15/2014 at 21:32 |

LOL, yes. When the Mazda 0.5 comes out with seating for 7 and third row seating powered by a 2.1L 3 cylinder turbo engine...
Weird configs in cars now days.
![]() 04/15/2014 at 21:36 |
|
Hahaha, the sad part is some of that could be true... Hopefully it is the 2.1L 3 cylinder turbo, because I would buy that!
![]() 04/15/2014 at 21:38 |
|
It would be torque-less, but fun!
![]() 04/15/2014 at 21:39 |

Nonsense, it will be a diesel!
![]() 04/15/2014 at 21:42 |

Diesel jet you mean!
![]() 04/15/2014 at 22:26 |
|
Of course! And it will be paired to a sequential box!
![]() 04/16/2014 at 00:10 |

I want to say it was mid-September... They were hard to find until October.
![]() 04/16/2014 at 08:59 |

That's probably what I was thinking of, but same thing either way if I can't get it.
![]() 04/16/2014 at 09:51 |

I'm sure you've tried it, but I've found a restore to factory settings then restore from backup to do wonders with a laggy older i-device. Also keeping around 10% of your space free does wonders, people forget that they're essentially pocket computers so computer software maintence rules still apply...
![]() 04/16/2014 at 09:58 |
|
FYI, the 6 will be the form factor upgrade and the "S" models are typically the hardware upgrades ie. processor, camera, memory, etc.
![]() 04/16/2014 at 11:54 |

Yeah, I do keep plenty of extra space, but it isn't really at the point where I would restore because it is getting annoying. Great tip though.
